‘Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God, and do his commandments.’ Deut 27: 9, 10.

“以色列啊,你要留心听,今日你成了耶和华你神的百姓。所以要听从耶和华你神的话,遵行祂的诫命。”申命记27:9-10。

What is the duty which God requireth of man?

神要求人的本分是什么?

Obedience to his revealed will.

顺服祂所启示的旨意。

It is not enough to hear God’s voice, but we must obey.

听神的声音是不够的,我们必须顺服。

Obedience is a part of the honour we owe to God.

顺服是我们欠神的尊荣的一部分。

‘If then I be a Father, where is my honour?’ Mal 1: 6.

“我既为父亲,尊敬我的在哪里呢?”玛拉基书1:6。

Obedience carries in it the life-blood of religion.

顺服承载着宗教的生命血液。

‘Obey the voice of the Lord God,’ and do his commandments.

“听从耶和华你神的话,”遵行祂的诫命。

Obedience without knowledge is blind, and knowledge without obedience is lame.

没有知识的顺服是盲目的,没有顺服的知识是瘸腿的。

Rachel was fair to look upon, but, being barren, said, ‘Give me children, or I die;’ so, if knowledge does not bring forth the child of obedience, it will die.

拉结容貌美丽,但因不生育,就说,”你给我孩子,不然我就死了;”所以,如果知识不生出顺服的孩子,它就会死去。

‘To obey is better than sacrifice.’ 1 Sam 15: 22.

“听命胜于献祭。”撒母耳记上15:22。

Saul thought it was enough for him to offer sacrifices, though he disobeyed God’s command; but ‘to obey is better than sacrifice.’

扫罗认为献祭对他来说就足够了,尽管他违背了神的命令;但”听命胜于献祭。”

God disclaims sacrifice, if obedience be wanting.

神弃绝献祭,如果缺少顺服。

‘I spake not unto your fathers concerning burnt offerings, but this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice.’ Jer 7: 22.

“我将你们列祖从埃及地领出来的那日,燔祭平安祭的事我并没有提说,也没有吩咐他们。我只吩咐他们这一件说:你们当听从我的话。”耶利米书7:22。

Not but that God did enjoin those religious rites of worship; but the meaning is that he looked chiefly for obedience — without which, sacrifice was but devout folly.

并不是说神没有命令那些宗教敬拜仪式;但意思是祂主要寻求顺服——没有顺服,献祭不过是虔诚的愚昧。

The end why God has given us his laws, is obedience.

神赐给我们祂律法的目的,是顺服。

‘Ye shall do my judgements, and keep mine ordinances.’ Lev 18:4.

“你们要遵我的典章,守我的律例。”利未记18:4。

Why does a king publish an edict, but that it may be observed?

君王颁布法令,岂不是为了让它被遵守?

What is the rule of obedience?

顺服的准则是什么?

The written word.

成文的话语。

That is proper obedience which the word requires; our obedience must correspond with the word, as the copy with the original.

那是真正的顺服,就是话语所要求的;我们的顺服必须与话语相符,如同副本与原本。

To seem to be zealous, if it be not according to the word, is not obedience, but will-worship.

看似热心,如果不符合话语,就不是顺服,而是任意崇拜。

Popish traditions which have no footing in the word, are abominable; and God will say, Quis quaesivit haec?

教皇派的传统在话语中没有根据,是可憎的;神会说,谁曾寻求这些?

‘Who has required this at your hand?’ Isa 1: 12.

“谁向你们讨这些?”以赛亚书1:12。

The apostle condemns the worshipping of angels, which had a show of humility. Col 2: 18.

使徒谴责敬拜天使,这有谦卑的外表。歌罗西书2:18。

The Jews might say they were loath to be so bold as to go to God in their own persons; they would be more humble, and prostrate themselves before the angels, and desire them to present their petitions to God; but this show of humility was hateful to God, because there was no word to warrant it.

犹太人可能说他们不愿如此大胆亲自到神面前;他们会更谦卑,俯伏在天使面前,求他们将他们的祈求呈给神;但这谦卑的外表是神所憎恶的,因为没有话语来保证它。
