“For the Lord God is a sun and shield–the Lord will give grace and glory–no good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11

“Out of nature into grace, out of grace into glory.”

Octavius Winslow’s From Grace to Glory is one of his most searching and devotional treatments of the doctrine of regeneration—the new birth by which the sinner, once dead in trespasses and sins, is made alive unto God through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Taking his theme from Psalm 84:11, “The Lord will give grace and glory,” Winslow traces the believer’s entire spiritual journey from the first spark of divine life to its full consummation in the presence of God.

With his characteristic warmth and theological clarity, he demonstrates that salvation is wholly the work of sovereign grace—begun, continued, and completed by God Himself.

Winslow warns with pastoral tenderness against mistaking the form of religion for its power.

A man may possess knowledge, eloquence, moral uprightness, or religious zeal, and yet remain spiritually lifeless.

Light is not life; emotion is not faith.

The new birth, he argues, is not achieved by baptism, human effort, or moral reform, but by the Spirit’s sovereign act of creation—a spiritual resurrection in which the soul is renewed in the image of God, given a new heart, and set free to love righteousness.

Through vivid illustration and searching application, Winslow exposes false hopes while comforting those who fear their faith is small, urging every reader to look away from self to the sufficiency of Christ.

His words breathe the humility and joy of one who has tasted grace and longed for glory: the believer’s life begins with the Spirit’s quickening touch and ends with the sight of the Savior’s face.

In this classic work, Winslow offers both solemn warning and sweet consolation, leading the soul to find in Christ alone the grace that brings it safely—from grace to glory.
