By nature, our course of life is wholly sinward.

Our every step is deviation from the ways of God.

Our back is turned to heaven and spiritual realities.

This world, with . . .
its polluting pleasures,
its empty vanities,
its unsatisfying shadows,
its deceitful pomps and honors,
is sought with blinded zeal!
这个世界，以及它的…
污染人的快乐，
虚空的虚荣，
无法满足的虚影，
虚假的排场和荣誉，
都被我们以盲目的热情所追求！
Our daily movement is a Hellward descent.
我们每天的行动都是在向地狱下沉。
But salvation turns the soul completely around!
但救恩使灵魂完全转向！
Objects we once shunned, are now desired.
我们曾经避开的事物，现在却渴望。
That which we now love, we once hated.
我们现在所爱的，我们曾经憎恨。
Our former pleasures retain no relish.
我们从前的快乐不再有滋味。
The mask which once hid the hideous features of the world, has fallen off its face!
曾经遮掩世界丑陋面目的面具，已经脱落！
The other lords which so long exercised dominion over us, are now renounced as cruel tyrants. Their yoke is broken, and their scepter is shattered!
长期辖制我们的其他主人，现在被我们弃绝为残暴的暴君。他们的轭已经折断，他们的权杖已经粉碎！
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.”
